The left foot of the bear is nailed into the shadow.. maybe you could have the feet crossing like the original pose.... could add to the comical feel. I like the white cross w/ drop shadow - adds more depth to the piece. If you are going to use the children, there needs to be more white/contrast added to them.
I'm not sure I follow your logic. O, now I get it. It's a bad joke. The white cross is less sacrilegious than the other, the bear/twins eliminates that completely and so maybe is the least offensive. look up the "Henkle Twins"
render the body more simply and curvaceous. use what you have as the model and just rough curves over it. make the detailed part the important part. that's really all that matter's anyway. the body should be tres sim-pal.

Definetely like the top right bear the best (the white one). Love the use of positive and negative space. Although offensive I find it funny :o)
I feel like the babies could be done in a two-tone like the bear.
